a.d. 2098:
Con l’inesorabile surriscaldamento globale, l’ossigeno nell’aria terminò.
Per sopravvivere, l’uomo fu costretto a prodursi l’ossigeno con una valigetta alimentata da pannelli fotovoltaici, portandosela sempre appresso ovunque.
Collegando la valigetta alla trachea, riuscì a vivere senza la maschera per l’ossigeno, ma dimenticò ogni cosa, a partire dal sorriso.
a.d. 2098:
With relentless global warming, the oxygen in the air ran out.
To survive, man was forced to produce oxygen with a briefcase powered by photovoltaic panels, always carrying it with him everywhere.
By connecting the briefcase to the trachea, he managed to live without the oxygen mask, but he forgot everything, starting from his smile.
IL MESSAGGIO / THE MESSAGE
L’opera è stata realizzata da Federico Errante nel 2008 come protesta verso i governi che non hanno sottoscritto il Protocollo di Kyoto del 1997 per la riduzione del gas serra. Il messaggio ai Capi di Stato è esplicito, impresso nero su bianco sull’installazione:
“a.d. 2097 | State Leaders you’re too late, you were too slow to act.”
(a.d. 2097, Capi di Stato siete arrivati troppo tardi, siete stati troppo lenti ad agire).
La storia che l’artista racconta è un grido d’allarme per il futuro che ci attende.
The work was created by Federico Errante in 2008 as a protest against governments that have not signed the 1997 Kyoto Protocol for the reduction of greenhouse gases. The message to the heads of state is explicit, written in black and white on the installation:
“a.d. 2097, State Leaders you’re too late, you were too slow to act.”
The story that the artist tells is an alarm shout for the future that awaits us.

L’installazione Tracheostomized people è un’opera allarmista e distopica, formata da sette figure antropomorfe, di altezza sovrumana, realizzate interamente in Soft Bubble con altre piccole componenti di diversi materiali.
Inoltre, alcune Soft Bubble precedenti (come Il mio Sax, Le mie scarpe, Il grande libro o Natura morta) sono state inglobate nella base dei due mezzi busti.
Gli ominidi qui rappresentati non respirano più come facciamo noi oggi, ma ricevono ossigeno da un sistema di produzione portatile, alimentato a pannelli solari, con una cannula fissa impiantata direttamente in trachea.
Camminano come uomini d’affari, ognuno con la propria preziosa valigetta dalla luce verde, in un misto di indifferenza e curiosità verso l’ultimo uomo con il led rosso…
Che cosa succederà?
L’opera denuncia il perenne qualunquismo dell’uomo e presenta l’incubo della drastica riduzione dell’ossigeno nell’aria, che mette a rischio la sopravvivenza di ogni specie vivente del pianeta.
L’imperdonabile e sconsiderato comportamento umano, che antepone il proprio interesse al bene comune, provoca la fatale distruzione degli elementi necessari alla vita, come l’aria, l’acqua e il mondo naturale.
Tracheostomized people is an alarmist and dystopian installation, made up of seven anthropomorphic figures, of superhuman height, made entirely of Soft Bubble with other small components of different materials.
Furthermore, some previous Soft Bubbles (such as My Sax, My Shoes, The Big Book or Still Life) have been incorporated into the base of the two busts.
The hominids represented here no longer breathe as we do today, but they receive oxygen from a portable production system, powered by solar panels, with a fixed cannula implanted directly into the trachea.
They walk like businessmen, everyone with their own precious green-light briefcase, in a mixture of indifference and curiosity towards the last man with the red LED…
What’s going to happen?
The work denounces man’s perennial indifference and presents the nightmare of the drastic reduction of oxygen in the air, which threatens the survival of every living species on the planet.
The unforgivable and thoughtless human behavior, which puts self-interest before the common good, causes the fatal destruction of the elements necessary for life, such as air, water and the natural world.
