About

bio and cv

Federico Errante lives and works between Vicenza and Barcelona.
After a career as a fashion designer, he has devoted himself to contemporary art since 1994, initially as a sculptor and painter.

TECHNIQUE : In 2003 he invented the Soft Bubble: a new technique between sculpture and painting that traps air in a rubbery, flexible and resistant material. In particular, the Soft Bubble offers people the possibility of touching it and pressing it delicately with their hands, allowing them to interact with its volume without compromising its shape.

RESEARCH : Federico Errante investigates the major environmental, ethical and social issues (such as air, water and land pollution, climate change, human rights, capitalism…) that are becoming increasingly urgent in the new millennium, together with a biographical work that documents the traces left by this era.

CRITIC : Philippe Daverio became interested in the Soft Bubble in 2010 and organized a solo exhibition of Errante in Milan in 2011, during which the Soft Bubble Room was presented.

FULL BIOGRAPHY

Federico Errante (1949) lives and works between Vicenza and Barcelona.

With a musical education and a consolidated multi-decade career in the fashion field, both in manufacturing and as a designer, he approaches art in 1986, designing a giant hologram and later creating the first wearable bustier sculptures.

Since the 90s he has mainly dealt with figurative sculpture, combining different materials of complex workmanship, such as walnut and cherry wood, blown glass, stone, marble, bronze and aluminum, and carries on a parallel path on painting and color.

After a long experimentation, in 2003 he created the Soft Bubble and thus arrived at a sort of air sculpture with a tactile and malleable material that inflates and deflates with the pressure of a finger.
Like a new skin, the Soft Bubble embraces everyday presences and industrial objects that have somehow nourished our existence, preserving their vital space in a precious empty cocoon, where they continue to live and breathe despite their absence.

Thus he began to write a biography of our time, on which he grafts his own autobiography, studded with moments of minimalist synthesis and profound reflection alternating with moments of ethical, social and environmental denunciation with more striking tones.

In 2010 he met the interest of the historian and art critic Philippe Daverio.
In 2011 Daverio organizes the first personal exhibition on Errante’s Soft Bubble, “La guaina molle” at Superstudio Più in Milan, delegating his presentation to Jean Blanchaert for health reasons.

To this day, Federico Errante continues to work on the evolutionary line of the Soft Bubble.

Federico Errante has exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and United States, he has created public works and won awards.
His works are present in private collections in Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and in United States.
